Montessori Parts of Speech Flowchart
Having a solid understanding of the different parts of speech can benefit a child greatly as they begin the process of constructing their own sentences and paragraphs. Knowing sentence patterns and rules can also help in the reading decoding process and sentence parsing can be a wonderful way to practice this. However, as the child works with more and more complex sentences, they may still need some assistance in deducing what part of speech they are working with. This flowchart offers the child a concrete visual as they work their way through a variety of questions that help them pinpoint exactly which part of speech they’re looking for.
I recommend printing this material on cardstock and laminating it if possible for extended use. It could be displayed on your grammar/language shelf and brought to a workspace when needed.
